Alexander Cann
Alexander Cann is a conductor, accompanist, and music teacher. This is his second season as Artistic Director of the Bach Elgar Choir.
Alexander has directed youth choirs, community choirs, church choirs, and university choirs. He was the founding director of Simply Sweetly, McGill University’s female choir. In 2006, Alexander was Associate Music Director with Tapestry New Opera Works in Toronto. In 2005, he was the Metcalf Music Intern at the Shaw Festival, where he assisted in two productions, Gypsy, and Happy End. Opera and operetta conducting credits include Naughty Marietta and The Turn of the Screw with Opera McGill.IIn 2003 Alexander received an M.Mus. in conducting from McGill University, where he studied with Julian Wachner (choral/opera), Alexis Hauser (orchestral), and Tom Plaunt (piano). Alexander also studied at McMaster University, graduating B.Arts.Sci. At McMaster, Alexander was musical director for McMaster Musical Theatre and apprentice conductor with the McMaster University Choir.
Alexander is a music teacher in the Wellington District Catholic School Board. He is currently also accompanist for the Masterworks of Oakville Chorus and harpsichordist with the Oakville Chamber Orchestra.
