Thank you for your interest in joining us. We hope the following will give you a better idea of who we are and "what you're getting yourself into"!
What you need to know:
The Bach Elgar Choral Society provides a unique opportunity for amateur singers of the highest calibre to express themselves musically, singing some of the most gratifying choral music ever written.
Choir members are required to pay an annual fee, for which an income tax receipt is issued. Students are eligible for a special rate.
Note that costume arrangements may be made with the wardrobe mistress upon joining the choir.
By joining, you commit to:
participating in all four subscription series concerts, and as many of the "extra" performances as your schedule allows.
- attending all regularly scheduled Tuesday night rehearsals from 7:30-10PM
- arriving at 7:15 at the latest for these rehearsals
- attending ALL dress rehearsals.
You will be assigned a chorister number, which is your link to the library. It is imperative that you memorize your number and take great care of the music being lent to you.
Sadly, we cannot survive on concert revenue alone, and so it is very important that each one of us becomes involved in the organization's fundraising efforts. Bingo, flower sales, etc. are announced throughout the season. It is a matter of our survival that we all contribute to the success of these efforts.
Recent audience questionnaires showed that by far the most effective advertisement we have is done by our membership. It is up to us to sell as many tickets as possible. We will provide you with the material -- Posters, flyers, brochures and emails -- with which to spread the word to family and friends.
You will be kept in the know through periodic newsletters and an Annual General Meeting at the end of the season. Your feedback and input is always greatly appreciated. Please feel free to contact the office with suggestions and questions at any time.
Most concerts and events include a reception after the performance. Please do stay and socialize - camaraderie will build a greater sense of community, commitment and beautiful musical blending!
Thanks for coming out!
